A New Word Processor Hits the Scene

There once was a clever man named Microsoft Word, and he ruled the lands with options for spreadsheets, documents, and other such things made available for the everyday computer user. Then a new challenger emerged from Sun Microsystems called OpenOffice–a similar and compatible champion to the word processing front. For years, these two warriors hit the world with all the features any user could ever want with the written word–whether revolving around business, personal, or even literary.

But that’s not the end of the story: another word processor has hit the scene. Believe it or not, this word processor actually originated from the same company that brought on OpenOffice. The name of the new software is LibreOffice, specifically LibreOffice 3.3.

The story begins with the acquisition of Sun Microsystems by the company called Oracle. While standing by its premier word processing service OpenOffice, some developers in Sun Microsystems didn’t approve of the acquisition and broke away from their longtime open source company to begin their own–the Document Foundation. Less than four months later after the creation of this new company, LibreOffice 3.3 was created to provide yet a third competitor in the word processing market. Utilizing the exact same compatibility with Linux and Word, it stands to be a direct competitor to OpenOffice while providing the same alternative to the cost of Microsoft Office. The new software is actually available for Windows, Linux operating systems, and even Mac; and all document types are filtered compatible for easy transfer and use.

So we now have three warriors on the word processing arena. How will that work for consumers? Possibly great. Will it be confusing? Maybe. The point is if there’s any benefit to either word processing software, there has to be some sense of uniqueness, quality, and special benefit that can set it apart from either competitor without sacrificing compatibility. It’s going to be an interesting era of computer word processing technology, indeed.

The future has definitely hit us. Remember the Jetsons? That fun-loving futuristic cartoon family? Well, this is the next best thing, and seriously, it’s for real: introducing the astonishing innovation in recreation vehicle technology, the Jetlev-Flyer, the first ever real powered jetpack. And this isn’t just for Navy pilots or anything like that. You seriously can be the everyday joe out there, possibly working for the U.S. Postal Service, and purchase this jetpack at a hefty price, granted, take it to the lake and fly away!

Yes, take it to the lake–the reason why is because it’s not powered by petroleum rockets from NASA. It’s powered by water. That’s right, just water. What it does is place a waterjet-type apparatus on any given lake hooked with an elongated pipe that connects to the actual pack. It siphons water from the lake up to your pack and shoots the water out in breakneck speed through two jets, one on each side of you. The resulting inertia actually powers you up as high as thirty feet and as fast as 20 miles per hour. Controls, believe it or not, are surprisingly easy (although there are banned maneuvers already for this new recreational vehicle!).

Now, brace yourself, the price is hefty (as mentioned before): approximately $175,246 for one unit.

Who knows, though–maybe in a decade or so, this type of machine would drop to reasonably affordable prices for all the masses. Say good-bye to your jetski! And say hello to the Jetlev-Flyer.
